Catalogue entry

Considering the proximity to sketches of St Bride’s Church, this sketch is likely to depict the Lanarkshire village of Douglas. The towered building at the centre right makes a good match for the church with its narrow, octagonal clock tower, though the other church to the left has not been identified. The river in the foreground is presumably the Douglas Water that flows along the western edge of the village. For references to further sketches of Douglas and its church see folio 24 (D26305).
