Catalogue entry

Drawn with the sketchbook inverted is a sketch of Doune Castle from across Ardoch Burn to the east. The castle is drawn in some detail, especially the tower house with its circular north-east corner and its various gun loop and windows. Through a screen of trees at the right can be seen a cottage that still stands in the grounds. There are further views of the castle and burn on the reverse of this page: folio 61 (D26374). For further information and a full list of Turner’s sketches of the castle, see folio 52 verso (D26358).
