This page contains three distinct drawings. At the top of the sheet is a detailed study of the façade of a building. The precise location remains unidentified. However, the architectural details such as the arcade and the upper-floor loggia, are reminiscent of the characteristic style of Piazza del Mercato (Market Square) in the city of Domodossola. Also on the page are two distant views of the Swiss Alps seen from the road to the Simplon Pass (for a general discussion of Turner’s journey see the introduction to the sketchbook, and also the introduction to the Passage of the Simplon sketchbook, Tate, Turner Bequest CXCIV).
