Catalogue entry

The subject’s undulating hills are possibly on the fringes of Dartmoor, as with the views on folios 8 recto and 10 recto (D09489, D09491) and identified subjects later in this sketchbook. For other definite or likely Dartmoor views, see under D09489.
There is a separate detail at the top right, showing a two-stage tower, apparently with castellations; this is presumably the same tower seen towards the horizon in the landscape. The somewhat illegible note on folio 10 verso opposite (D40822) may include the word ‘pinnacles’ in relation to the tower.
