Catalogue entry

The pencil note of the Turner Bequest number, with its characteristic line over the Roman element, appears to be in the hand of British Museum curator A.M. Hind, who supervised the conservation of Turner Bequest works after the 1928 Tate Gallery flood. In line with Finberg’s 1909 Inventory, that number currently applies to the watercolour on the recto (D41244), but there has been some confusion. See the entry for the recto for further discussion.
Technical notes:
There are remains of glue in all four corners, from when the leaf was extracted and mounted for display; see under the recto (D41244).
