Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, the upper two thirds of the page are taken up with the following notes concerning the Royal Academy’s annual exhibition:
Many inconveniences having occurred from | the removal of Pictures arranged by the Comittee | for Ex
Resolved. That to prevent such Inconveniences | recurring in future no application for | changes [‘the situation of’ inserted above] Pictures after the Com have | finished the arrangement & the [?Mem] are | allowed to come in and varn. their Paintings, | can be attended to. – April 25 [?1809]
Although the third figure of the concluding year date appears to be ‘0’, the note should presumably be dated 1819 in line with others on Royal Academy business in this sketchbook (see under folio 4 recto; D13757). A contemporary note of an 1809 resolution would clearly be impossible given the 1817 watermark on some leaves (see the Introduction to the sketchbook).
