Catalogue entry

The drawing was made with the page turned horizontally. Inveraray, on the north shore of Loch Fyne, and its environs, studies of which occupy pages of this book from here to folio 43 recto (D02994; Turner Bequest LVI 41), are the subject of several colour studies made in preparation for projected watercolours after the tour; see Tate D03632–D03635 (Turner Bequest LX A, B, C, D).
This page does not bear a stamped Turner Bequest number; for the issues confusing the numbering of this and the preceding leaf, see the technical notes in the sketchbook’s Introduction.
Technical notes:
The page was damaged by prolonged exposure. Finberg noted that it was withdrawn from the Third Loan Collection in September 1905 ‘on account of the blue fading’.1
