Catalogue entry

One half of a double-page spread, this is a view of Kinfauns Castle from the bank of the River Tay to the south-east. The river can be seen in the foreground with the castle on a wooded slope above it. The view continues on folio 28 verso (D26723; CCLXXII 30a), where we look west along the river with Kinnoull Tower.
There are further sketches of the castle on folios 27 and 28 (D26724, D26722; CCLXXII 31, 30), and sketches of Kinnoull Tower on folios 27 verso, 28 verso, 30 and 30 verso (D26724, D26723, D26747, D26746; CCLXXII 31, 30a, 42a, 42). For sketches of the nearby town of Perth and information about the artist’s visit to the area, see folio 31 verso (D26744; CCLXXII 41).
