Catalogue entry

In the right-hand corner of this view of the town of Castel Gandolfo above Lake Albano, Turner has made a detailed study of the dome of San Tommaso di Villanova, the church designed by Bernini which stands next to the Pope’s summer residence.
For a full discussion of Turner’s depictions of Lake Albano see folio 3 verso (D15301) and the general introduction to the sketchbook.
