Catalogue entry

With the sketchbook inverted, this view of Jedburgh Abbey is from the south as in folio 75 verso (D26063; CCLXVII 77a). We look along the Jed Water and the abbey is framed by the high western riverbank at the left and trees at the right. Behind the abbey can be seen the spire of the seventeenth-century Parish Church (no longer extant). For references to further views of Jedburgh see folio 63 verso (D26039; CCLXVII 65a).
At the bottom left of the page is a small sketch of Jedburgh Castle Jail, which can be seen at the top left of the view of Jedburgh on folio 60 verso (D26033; CLXVII 62a), and on folio 75 verso (D26063; CCLXVII 77a).
