Catalogue entry

This page is closely packed with sketches of the overgrown ruins of Netley Abbey, located about five miles south-east of Southampton. From left to right can be discerned the three stories of the south transept, an arcade of Gothic arches seen through a thicket of saplings, and a wide window arch denuded of its tracery. The abbey was the subject of particular study in this sketchbook, and recurs on multiple pages; see folio 32 verso (D23581; Turner Bequest CCLII 32a) for the main entry on this site.
