Catalogue entry

The juxtaposition of Launceston Castle and the tower of St Mary Magdalene’s Church shows that Turner’s viewpoint is in the valley of the Kensey, looking south-west to the town. Mill buildings survive at the corner of Ridgegrove Lane and Ridgegrove Hill.
Folio 114 recto (D09605) shows the castle and church from a similar angle. For further views of Launceston, see under folio 106 recto (D09596).
