Catalogue entry

With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled much of this page with a view of a riverside landscape punctuated by buildings. A sketch of a cloud with sunrays or falling rain is included in the top left-hand quadrant of the page. Turner travelled extensively around the satellite settlements of Paris in the Île-de-France with the sketchbook and also up the Marne River to the east of the city so these drawings were probably made in one of those regions.
