Catalogue entry

With the sketchbook turned to the left are three sketches of a ruin on a hill that have been identified as Roxburgh Castle (see folio 36 verso; D25989; CCLXVII 36a). They all show the remains of a cube-shaped structure at the top of a mound with a river bank beneath. The sketch at the top with a large boulder in the foreground is similar to the drawings on folios 37 verso and 38 (D25991–D25992; CCLXVII 37a, 38).
