Catalogue entry

Here Turner has sketched aspects of Cologne, a city of many churches, from his boat on the Rhine (see also D19844, D30763, D30766, D30778; Turner Bequest CCXVI 147, CCCIV 70, 71a, 77a). The drawing inscribed ‘Mulin’ is a view of the nearby town of Mülheim, located a few moments downstream from Cologne. Mülheim’s Church of St Clemens is depicted at bottom left, on the riverbank.
