Catalogue entry

The drawing on this page seems to describe the lighthouse at South Foreland near Dover, as already explored on folio 8 recto (D17220). For an explanation of the history of lighthouses at the site, and a list of sketches which consider them in the present sketchbook and elsewhere, see the entry for that page.
At the centre of the page Turner renders his view of the lighthouse in detail, taking what appears to be a south-westerly view from a position slightly inland. Further across to the right, adjacent with the gutter, a brief, unelaborated outline seems to describe the same collection of buildings from a somewhat greater distance.
Technical notes:
A finger or thumb print marks the bottom edge of this page.
