These three sketches were made with the page turned vertically. The first two show crowded scenes of yachts under sail off shore, apparently with a further detail of sails at the top right. The lowest shows two women, characterised almost to the point of caricature by their large bonnets, apparently on the shore and possibly in relation to other figures in a rowing boat; for other studies of spectators, see under folio 13 recto (D20615; Turner Bequest CCXXVI 12). There are colour notes beside the right-hand figure. For more on studies in this sketchbook relating to the regatta events at Cowes from late July 1827 onwards, see the Introduction.
