Catalogue entry

Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, Tamworth Castle and St Editha’s Church are seen to the north-west across the River Anker, with Ladybridge on the left. Eric Shanes1 has associated this sketch with Turner’s England and Wales watercolour of Tamworth, which is described under its main source, folio 52 verso (D22072; CCXXXVIII 51c); the present prospect is from some way further east, from where trees and later developments now obscure the view. Other Tamworth sketches are discussed under D22072.
