Catalogue entry

Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, this slight view appears to show Louis-Philippe’s château at Eu, looking east to the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame and Saint-Laurent along the Allé du Cheval. The subject was tentatively proposed by Finberg and confirmed by Ian Warrell.1 A different aspect of the church is shown on folio 34 verso opposite (D35548); see under folio 21 verso (D35540) for other views.
1
See Finberg 1909, II, p.1172, and Warrell 1995, p.40.
Technical notes:
There is some brown staining at the gutter, possibly indicating water damage in the 1928 Tate flood.
