Catalogue entry

This is one of two sketches that Turner made of the interior of the courtyard of Dunstaffnage Castle. The present view looks north-east towards the gatehouse at the right and the remains of the West Range at the left. Above the curtain wall are the mountains north of Loch Etive. The sketch on the back of this page (folio 87 verso; D26913) shows a similar view, though looking to the east.
Turner made a number of sketches of Dunstaffnage from the vicinity of the castle and from a slight distance; see folio 89 (D26916) for references to these sketches.
