Catalogue entry

These cursory sketches show the city of Verdun in profile. The view closest to the gutter of the book appears to depict Verdun’s fortress and the remaining views depict the twin towers of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame at a distance. For further sketches see Tate D19691, D19694–D19695, D19697–D19698; Turner Bequest CCXVI 71a, 73–73a, 74a–75.
