Catalogue entry

This page contains three sketches of views within the Maurienne Valley, Savoy. Turner journeyed through the valley en route to the Pass of Mont Cenis. The locations have not been conclusively identified but they are likely to depict scenes from the road approaching the village of St-Michel-de-Maurienne, see folio 85 verso (D14135). As an inscription by the artist indicates, the river winding its way through the heart of the middle study is the River Arc.
