Display caption

Hitherto kept among miscellaneous drawings in the Turner Bequest, this sheet may be convincingly placed with the group of Kentish sketches in oil and other media on paper. The size used to prepare the paper appears to be the same. Most probably this was another sheet from this group, which Turner never got around to colouring; it is shown as an example of the way he prepared the paper in readiness for painting.
