Catalogue entry

The main sketch on this page depicts a view of mountainous landscape. A brief inscription by the artist indicates that it represents a view on the road to the Pass of Mont Cenis in the Cottian Alps. For a general discussion of Turner’s passage through the Alps see the Introduction to the sketchbook.
There is also a further, very rough and schematic drawing of mountains on the far right-hand side of the sheet, parallel with the right-hand edge.
