Catalogue entry

Similarities with other studies within this sketchbook suggest that these two sketches may represent views of distant mountains outside of Rome. The tree in top left-hand corner is an umbrella or stone pine, characteristic of Italianate landscape. Compare views on folios 18 verso–19 verso (D16519–D16521).
