Catalogue entry

Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, the focus here is a distant vertical feature which appears to be the Clockcase tower, a folly situated beyond the eastern shore of Virginia Water and the London road. It is now obscured by trees. The sketch continues a little on folio 89 verso opposite (D22144; Turner Bequest CCXXXVIII 87a), with trees on the south side of the lake.
For other views around Virginia Water, see under folio 73 verso (D22113; Turner Bequest CCXXXVIII 71a).
