Catalogue entry

The view above the jotting of a group of fishermen in sou’wester hats is of the North Quay at Yarmouth. Visible is the round tower with conical spire: one of the few remaining medieval towers which guarded the port and naval base (see Tate D18195–D18196; Turner Bequest CCIX 20a–21). The other sketches depict buildings on the Yarmouth coast, including a dismantled windmill which is recorded in more detail on the folio opposite (Tate D18198; Turner Bequest CCIX 22).
