Warhol is synonymous with American popular culture and the brands and products of the people. This association continued throughout his career, from his Coke bottles in the sixties to his screenprints of Levi 501 jeans of 1984. This poster reproduces one of his Levi paintings showing four panels of colour layered with a screenprint of a male figure in jeans. The skewed appearance recalls his early experimentations of stamping images in the late-1950s before he discovered the screenprinting technique. Throughout his life Warhol was fascinated by the world of fashion. He would have been thrilled to know that in 2008 Levis launched a range of ‘wearable art’ inspired by artists, including Warhol’s work .
