Young Tate hosts Fright Night at Tate Liverpool this Halloween: They’ll be ‘MADE UP’ to see you!

Inspired by the Liverpool Biennial’s MADE UP theme, Young Tate will present Fright Night, a Halloween party with a creative twist. On Friday 31 October, from 18.00 - 21.00, young people aged 14 - 25 can explore their dreams, nightmares and fantasies: see devilish DJs and bands, enjoy magical makeovers, take part in creepy crafts and freaky tasks, as well as enjoy a Biennial exhibition full of myths, lies and superstition. Visitors are encouraged to dress up, using their creativity and imagination to be anyone they want to be - from spooks to superheroes. This event, organised by the members of Young Tate for other young people, is free of charge. To book free tickets please contact the Tate Liverpool on 0151 702 7400.

Young Tate members have been busy developing three fun themes for Fright Night, all inspired by the Biennial’s MADE UP approach: fairytale fantasy, gruesome graveyard and creative carnival. In addition to props and creatures that will decorate the event, there will be also be the opportunity to enjoy scary storytellers, mask making, Halloween games, MADE UP tours of the exhibition and musical performances. Local bands and DJs such as Electric Church Foundation, Straight out of Moscow, Mathew Street Preachers, This is Fake Union, Soft Toy Emergency and Ziroki promise a range of music from experimental electronica to alternative post punk and funk.

The Fright Night event also marks the culmination of a four month Youth Art Interchange project that has seen Young Tate groups at Tate Liverpool, Tate Modern, Tate Britain and Tate St Ives work with international youth groups from Finland, France and Spain. Approximately 90 young people from these countries will visit Tate Liverpool to experience Fright Night for themselves. Throughout the rest of the weekend young people will be leading workshops and art sessions for each other as part of a wider programme of international cultural exchange. Fright Night and Youth Art Interchange have been funded by the Youth in Action scheme which provides mobility projects and opportunities for young Europeans.

Fright Night has been created by Young Tate: a vibrant and enthusiastic band of art activists aged 13-25. Young Tate at Tate Liverpool meet regularly to manage dynamic youth projects for the gallery. They have been running for 14 years, constantly creating new and unusual events such as Hell Night (2006), The Alternative Turner Prize (2007), Peter Blake’s Beach Party (2007) and this summer’s Klimt-inspired ArtPad. Young Tate is always looking for new members.
