Where the Work Begins

Find the connections between art and architecture in this display by the Royal Institute of British Architects

Where the Work Begins is a display curated by RIBA that explores the connection between art and architecture. Drawing on RIBA's collection, this display traces the evolution of artist workspaces from the 1800s to the present day. It looks at Liverpool's local art scene, uncovering the histories, original use and architectural significance of its studio spaces.

Inspired by the theme of this year's Liverpool Biennial BEDROCK - a nod to Liverpool’s sandstone foundations and social fabric - this show features photography by artists and architects such as Dora Gordine, Denys Lasdun, Antony Gormley, MJ Long and Anish Kapoor.
