The Threads that Bind Us

Daily
22–28 August 2024
A collage of pictures of young people overlaid with colours and other photographs and annotated with words and illustrations.

See fresh garments that are anti-fast fashion on display at the Met Quarter

Join us for a free display of style and fashion photography created by young producers from the Tiber organisation based in Toxteth.

The Threads that Bind Us showcases garments designed and made by Toxteth young people with the support of fashion designer Andrew Ibi. The display features portraits of the group wearing their own designs, styled with designer garments chosen from CRICKET. The exhibition includes reflections on Tiber Young Producers' experiences of community, where they feel most powerful in their own lives, what it is like to be a young person in 2024 and how they can work together to create positive change.

Also on display is behind the scenes footage captured at YETI creative studios and Julian Gill and photography showing the Tiber young producers’ journey throughout this project.

Tiber Young Producers

Aged 13-18, Tiber Young Producers is a group of young artists and curators formed through the support of Tiber in L8. Tiber's vision is to build world class facilities, raising aspirations, encouraging and supporting young people in achieving their goals and getting the best from life by being positive role models in and around the L8 area. The young people are offered training opportunities, involvement in entrepreneurial projects, enterprise and leadership programmes, and work closely with local residents, businesses, volunteers and community organisations to fulfil their and Tiber's vision.

Tate Liverpool has been working with the Tiber Young Producers for more than 2 years and the group have previously created Future Forecast, a newly commissioned audio-visual artwork about climate change, in collaboration with Turner Prize winner Mark Leckey which was on display in the gallery at the start of 2024. The group have also created a film and showcased it at a community event in the gallery, which included a Q&A and a performance by Neo-Jazz Singer-Songwriter Ni Maxine and contributed to a number of Late at Tate events.

Tate Liverpool and Tiber would like to thank Stephen Nze, Andrew Ibi, Laura Fraser, Justine Mills and the CRICKET team, Metquarter and Carousel PR, Julian Gill, Karen Williams and the YETI Creative team, Neil Keating, Alena Kudera, Mithila Ramagavigan, Mike Pinnington, Benji Reid, Metal, Scott Duffey (Toucan Tango), George Maund and Eoin Quinn-Davies.
