Be drawn into Vija Celmin’s images of the infinite at Quay Arts this autumn

This autumn Quay Arts in the Isle of Wight presents an exhibition of works by acclaimed Latvian-American visual artist Vija Celmins. Best known for monochrome drawings and prints of the natural environment and phenomena, Celmins’ work explores the seemingly limitless aspects of nature: from an intricate spider’s web to the vast open spaces of night skies and ocean surfaces. These extraordinarily detailed artworks draw you in, encouraging you to consider the great scale of the world around us.

Featuring Celmin’s prints of spider webs, ocean surfaces, night skies, and deep space, the exhibition draws from the collection of Vija Celmins’ work in the ARTIST ROOMS collection – one of the largest museum collections of her work in the world.

To accompany the West gallery exhibition a display of drawings and prints by young Islanders aged 15-19 years old, Vija Celmins: Reflections, will be shown in the Clayden Gallery from the 28 September – 16 November. This free project has been made possible thanks to ARTIST ROOMS with Art Fund and Arts Council England support.

ARTIST ROOMS is a touring collection of over 1,600 works of modern and contemporary art. The collection is displayed across the UK in solo exhibitions that showcase the work of 42 major international artists.

The ARTIST ROOMS touring programme is delivered by the National Galleries of Scotland and Tate in a partnership with Ferens Art Gallery through to 2020, supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, by Art Fund and by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland.
