ARTIST ROOMS Music from the Balconies: Ed Ruscha and Los Angeles

29 April 2017 – 29 April 2018

Edward Ruscha, The Music from the Balconies 1984. ARTIST ROOMS Tate and National Galleries of Scotland. © Edward Ruscha.

Explore Ed Ruscha’s fascination with West Coast American culture at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh

Ed Ruscha (b. 1937) is widely regarded as one of the most significant artists working today. This two-room display has been selected from the substantial collection of Ruscha's work held in the ARTIST ROOMS collection and includes photographic series, paintings and drawings dating from the early 1960s to the 2000s.

This display highlights the ways in which Ruscha has consistently drawn upon urban landscape and architecture, cinema, brands, automobile-culture and language that refer and relate to Los Angeles and Hollywood to create works that engage with the aspirations and seduction of the American Dream.

For more information about the exhibition and events programme, visit the National Galleries of Scotland website.
