Andy Holden: world as cartoon

16 March 2017 at 19.00–21.00
Laws of Motion in Cartoon Landscape, film still, 2011-2016

Laws of Motion in Cartoon Landscape film still, 2011–2016

Join us to explore the role of cartoons and their relationship with the world around us

Curated and presented by artist Andy Holden this event focuses on the cartoon; both its influence on contemporary art practice as well as the artist’s theory of how cartoons can help us to understand the world around us which has increasingly come to resemble the cartoon landscape; a space where anything is possible and a new set of laws have formed.

The evening is presented in two parts.

Part 1: Animated Shorts (30 min)
A selection of artist moving image that explore the artists’ continued fascination with the boundary between the real and animated worlds. Including works by Mark Leckey, Ed Atkins, Rachel Maclean and Jordan Wolfson.

Part 2: Laws of Motion in a Cartoon Landscape (live performance) (55min)
In a live version of the artist’s celebrated 2016 film Laws of Motion in a Cartoon Landscape, the artist is transported into the cartoon via live green-screen to narrate his theory of how the world has now come to resemble a cartoon.
