Explore the connections between plants, gardens and art through hands-on gardening, creative making and close observation

Transforming how young people connect with plants, growing, art and the important questions shaping our world today.

Creative Ground is a new, free, pre-booked experience for all schools, created in partnership between the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and Tate Britain.

Set across the Clore Garden Classroom, Clore Garden and Tate Britain gallery spaces, Creative Ground invites young people to discover the connections between horticulture, nature and creativity.

Creative Ground is a partnership between the RHS and Tate Britain, generously supported by the Clore Duffield Foundation.

Every learner will take part in practical gardening activities that encourage learners to investigate the living world first-hand, developing skills and confidence.

Through creative making, discussion and reflection, learners will consider how they observe, connect and draw inspiration from the natural world. Learners will explore the joy, inspiration and sense of connection that gardens and art can foster.

By bringing together horticulture and art, Creative Ground encourages young people to see themselves as active participants in shaping a more positive future.

As part of the experience, schools will take part in a connected programme of learning that combines a facilitated session in the Clore Garden Classroom with resources designed to link learning across the garden, gallery and classroom.

10.00 – Arrive at the Schools Welcome Desk where you can store coats and bags in our lockers before the day begins.

10.30-12.00 - During this time, your group will be in either the Clore Garden Classroom or the Tate Britain Gallery.

12:00-13:00 - Lunch Break in Schools Lunch Room

13:00-14:30 - Your group will swap locations, spending the afternoon in the Tate Britain Gallery or the Clore Garden Classroom, depending on where you started the day.

Creative Ground is open to all schools across the UK. If any members of your group have specific access requirements, please let us know in advance so we can support your visit.
