Critical Practice as Play is a 3-day workshop based at Tate Britain devised to explore notions of representation, identity and power through being with the artwork on display. Working with artists participants will engage with one another and the museum through practical activity including performance/movement, textiles, conversations, storytelling and creative writing.
Questioning how we play with (and perform) our identities as individuals, in groups and in the world participants will explore critical, diverse and inclusive art practices.
Critical Practice as Play forms part of Janine Francois's doctoral research at Tate, exploring whether Tate can be a ‘safer space’ to discuss race and cultural difference within a teaching and learning context, and will include contributions from artists Camille Barton, Enam Gbewonyo and Kuchenga Shenje.
