Join legendary photographer Don McCullin for this special conversation with Lionel Barber

Don McCullin has gained international acclaim for his iconic images of conflict, poverty and social history. As a comprehensive retrospective of his work opens at Tate Britain, McCullin will discuss his remarkable career with Lionel Barber, editor of the Financial Times and Chair of Tate. The event will be introduced by Alex Farquharson, Director of Tate Britain, and there will also be a chance for audience questions and contributions.

Catalogues will be available for purchase from 18.00 and at the signing by Don McCullin after the talk. There will also be a wine reception for all attendees from 20.00 to 21.00.

This event is sold out, but a returns queue will operate on the evening from 18.00.

Biographies

Lionel Barber

Lionel Barber is the editor of the Financial Times and Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Tate. Since his appointment as editor in 2005, he has helped solidify the FT’s position as one of the first publishers to successfully transform itself into a multichannel news organisation. Lionel has co-written several books and has lectured widely on foreign policy, transatlantic relations, European security and monetary union in the USA and Europe and appears regularly on TV and radio around the world.

Don McCullin

Sir Don McCullin was born in 1935 and grew up in a deprived area of north London. He got his first break when a newspaper published his photograph of friends who were in a local gang. From the 1960s he forged a career as probably the UK’s foremost war photographer, primarily working for the Sunday Times Magazine. His unforgettable and sometimes harrowing images are accompanied in the show with his brutally honest commentaries.
