If Boiler Room represents the apex of rave culture today, it is indicative that one of the most viewed sets begins with the first three minutes of Mark Leckey’s Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore 1999, played by Jamie xx.
Leckey’s video work eludes to the desire for collective nostalgia around rave culture by creating a narrative around dance music history. This workshop seeks to expand beyond the work by providing a space to raise awareness and discuss alternative readings and interpretations of dance history which may have been erased or displaced.
In this lecture and workshop rkss, Laura Fox and Sara Sassanelli will explore these contemporary conditions that are radically changing the distribution and consumption of electronic music by reducing physical spaces designed for music consumption and connection as well as monopolising digital space to conform to these logics.

rkss, or Robin Buckley, is a London based producer, performer and DJ. Their work explores the politics and aesthetics of club culture, technology and queerness. Robin is a resident at Somerset House Studios.
Laura Fox
Laura Fox is a London based writer and artist with a research-based practice focused on the intersection between philosophy and technology. Laura will be collaborating with rkss at Somerset House Studios as part of their residency.
