Queer and Now Buskers

23 June 2018 at 15.00–18.00
Velodrome

Velodrome

Join our three buskers throughout the afternoon of Queer and Now

Velodrome

14.00 – 15.00

Velodrome is an experimental rock project by Katherine Christie Evans; a Queer songwriter, guitarist, bassist and drummer. She combines her baroque vocals and layers of melody with a DIY, lo-fi and retro aesthetic.

Velodrome is working at the intersections of Feminism, mental health activism, Queer visibility, and social inequality.

Sherika Sherard

15.00 – 16.00

Prepare to be challenged and positively moved as you experience the infectious creativity of Sherika Sherard. With a voice like velvet to deliver her robust persona this artist never fails to warm the hearts of listeners. Born and raised in South London, it was after listening to Marvin Gaye Sherika came to realise she also wanted to discover her deepest emotions through performance and songwriting. When finding her sound Sherika says “Paolo Nutini told me to pick up the guitar and Nina Simone told me to reflect the current times.”

Last year British Soul Singer Seal surprised Sherika with a visit while she was busking on the Southbank, they performed two duets and Seal went on to invite her to open for two of his shows at Old Royal Naval College (London) and Cirque Royal (Brussels). This year Legendary Film director Spike Lee also showed his appreciation for Sherika’s talent by personally picking her original song We Don’t Need a Reason to feature of his Netflix Series of She’s Gotta Have it.

Nara Taylor

16.00 – 17.00

Nara Taylor’s smooth vintage vocals will take you on a journey back to the 'Golden Age of Song'. Despite performing her vintage vibe all over the world, she can often be seen taking her queer swing to the street as the most glamourous busker in Covent Garden.
