Tate Collective After Hours Sarah Lucas: Happy Gas

An exclusive Tate Collective event celebrating the work of Sarah Lucas with Art Laughs

We're bringing stand-up comedy performances to Sarah Lucas: Happy Gas, exclusively for Tate Collective! Join us after hours for a series of comedy sets by Art Laughs, created by art critic and comedian Verity Babbs as a remedy to the seriousness of the art-world. Art Laughs has brought laughter into museums, galleries and art fair spaces, from the National Gallery, Royal Museums Greenwich and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, featuring stars of TV and radio.

Three performances will be taking place between 19.45 - 20.15, right outside the exhibition. Emily Bampton's performance will be based on Honey Pie 2020 discussing relationships and sex, Will Hall's performance will be based on William Hambling discussing all things dating, and Alice India's performance will be based on Exacto and discussing work and office jobs.

Verity Babbs: Verity Babbs is an art critic, comedian, and presenter, who created Art Laughs as a remedy to tedious art world earnestness. Art Laughs has performed at the National Gallery, Royal Museums Greenwich, Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. "Dizzyingly entertaining" (Cherwell) - "mention must go to Verity Babbs ... a few of the best gags of the day" (Broadway Baby) - "sharp as a whip and absolutely hilarious ... the clear star of the show" (The Cartoon Museum).

He’s also written for Have I Got News For You and the News Quiz. His 2023 Fringe work-in-progress was nominated for the Amused Moose award. “Stand out lines” (Chortle) “Top quality comedy… lets you say ‘I saw him before he was big.’” (Radio Ha-Ha) “My discovery of the Fringe” (BBC Arts)

Alice India: 2Northdown and Leicester Square Theatre finalist, Komedia Comedy Launchpad runner up. Charming little fool with excellent hair.

Emily Bampton: Emily Bampton is described as "a hilariously relatable punch to the gut" by Daily Info, been featured on Next Up Comedy, soared through to the Semi-Final of Cocoa Butter Club's Trailblazer Competition 2022, is a Quantum Leopard Winner and was shortlisted for BBC New Comedian 2022. Emily has performed at multiple festivals this summer, including Latitude.
