VerbalEyes is Tate Britain's schools outreach project giving young people the opportunity to explore visual and verbal expression using the Tate collection with contemporary artists. Over 300 children from five primary schools and one secondary school in the London boroughs of Newham and Westminster worked with artists on a project during which they visited Tate Britain, investigated different elements of art and language and created a final piece of collaborative artwork.
This year the project focused on the themes of travel, migration and exile. Gainsborough Primary School has created a nomadic home and Little Ilford Secondary and Essex Primary schools have worked together to explore identity and transition. St. Clement Danes and St. Mary's CE Primary Schools have investigated photography, film and the significance of history, place and objects. In the South Duveens, Brampton Primary School has created a unique sculptural installation.

Continuing professional development is a key part of VerbalEyes. The focus for each school's project is developed collaboratively by the artists, writers and teachers. Each school also takes part in a whole school teacher training day.
