VerbalEyes 2010: finding a voice through art

22–27 May 2010

VerbalEyes 2010: Slogan's Run Southern Road Primary School

VerbalEyes is Tate Britain's school outreach project. It gives young people the opportunity to explore visual and verbal expression using the Tate collection with contemporary artists. Over nine months, 360 children from five primary schools and one secondary school in the London boroughs of Newham and Westminster work with artists. During the project, the students visit Tate Britain, investigate different elements of art and language and create a final piece of collaborative artwork which is exhibited at Tate Britain.

The focus for each project is developed collaboratively by the artists and teachers and each school takes part in a whole school teacher training day. Continuing professional development for teachers is a key part of VerbalEyes.

The VerbalEyes exhibition takes place in two locations. On level one in the Clore Foyer, St Gabriel's and Millbank Primary display sculptural installations and Southern Road and Earlham Primary present documentary films. On level two, St Anthony's Primary and St Angela's secondary exhibit hand-made kneelers in the Millbank Studio.

Exhibition duration:
Clore Foyer, Level 1 galleries and Millbank Studio, Level 2 galleries 22–27 May 2010
