A programme of events to raise awareness of dementia through art

Join Open Eye Galley, SURF (The Liverpool Service User Reference Forum) and photographer Tadhg Devlin for a series of events about Culture Shifts, a new socially engaged photographic programme.

Together with communities, photographers and Merseyside health services, Open Eye Gallery will host tours, performances and discussions to open up the dialogue and raise awareness around dementia.

Experience the gallery a-fresh, with an alternative tour led by SURF in A Walk in My Shoes, or by enjoying a Musical Performance by Paul Hitchmough in the gallery. Look at the impacts of the arts on the health sector in Tadhg Devlin in Conversation, or at innovative approaches to the arts and mental health in What Role Does Art Play in Health and Wellbeing?  Join Tadhg for advice in Photography Portfolio Critques, and learn how to cultivate mindfulness and best practices through dementia in the Mindfulness and Dementia talk, and Dealing with the Difficult Days.

This series is pogrammed by Open Eye Gallery, a Tate Exchange Liverpool Associate, in collaboration with photographer Tadhg Devlin and SURF (The Liverpool Service User Reference Forum), supported by Merseycare NHS Foundation Trust and Community Integrated Care.

About Open Eye Gallery

Open Eye Gallery works with people to explore photography’s unique ability to connect, to tell stories, to inquire, to reflect on humanity’s past and present, and to celebrate its diversity and creativity.

About SURF

SURF are ambassadors for those living with early on-set dementia with the aim to break the stigma associated and reflect members’ lives as individuals and not as a condition.

About Tadhg Devlin

Devlin is a freelance photographer who has exhibited work across England and  Ireland, and is currently working on a long term project involving the Liverpool Irish diaspora, some of which was exhibited at the Bluecoat gallery in 2013.
