Heritage, Research and Collaboration with ESEA communities

16 March 2023 at 18.00–19.30

Explore heritage, research and collaboration relating to East and South East Asian communities in the UK

Join us for a discussion themed around research on East and South East Asian communities. This is a collaborative event with Liverpool East and South East Asian Network (LESEAN) and the Centre for Culture and Everyday Life at the University of Liverpool.

The discussion will reflect on what ‘heritage’ means, collaborative research with communities and our current moment of increasing visibility of ‘East and South East Asian’ heritage. We'll be joined by two guest speakers, Dora Lam and Xiao Ma, who will give us an insight into their research. This will be followed by an audience Q&A and free refreshments.

Please book your free ticket here in advance.

Xiao Ma

Xiao Ma is a PhD researcher at the University of Westminster. Her research critically examines the notion and practice of heritage in London’s Chinatown. She also works for China Exchange, a charity that creates opportunities for the public to learn more about contemporary China, Chinese culture and London's Chinatown.

Dora Lam is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice uses craft and collaboration to navigate the experiences of East and South East Asian communities in London. She collaborated with Hackney Chinese Community Services for ‘We/Make/Do’, a project which explored intergenerational relationships through art and discussion. Dora is the current artist in residence for the ‘Uncovering Vietnamese Archives’ residency at the Museum of the Home, London.
