Making Sense of Art: Sharing Ideas about Art in Society

12 December 2017 at 11.00–16.00
Making Sense of Art: Sharing Ideas about Art in Society

Join the learners from Making Sense of Art and Artist and Community Activist, Nina Edge, for a drop-in activity based on Tate Exchange's theme of 'production'.

This event will provide an opportunity for students to lead their own learning by collectively generating ideas, which can be tested out in a public forum that not only makes sense of art, but can make a difference to community agendas and improved health outcomes for local communities.

About Making Sense of Art

Making Sense of Art: Sharing Ideas about Art in Society is a community learning partnership between Tate Liverpool and the City of Liverpool College that aims:

  • To transform community based learning by embedding the principles of co-design and co-creation into learning frameworks.
  • To use art as a tool for personal skills development; knowledge production; community dialogue; health and wellbeing; and to build resilient and sustainable communities.
  • To introduce and encourage adult learners, to participate in creating relevant arts programmes in local communities and to take part in the wider cultural offer across Liverpool city region.

For Autumn 2017, adult learners living in close proximity to The Florence Institute, South Liverpool, are taught a curriculum that explores socially engaged practice through a broad range of interactive learning experiences and participatory activities, led by Nina Edge.
