In Conversation: Community Collective

26 March – 1 April 2018
Tate Liverpool Community Collective

Tate Liverpool’s Community Collective, founded on the principles of collaborative practice and co-creation, (facilitated by community activist/artist Nina Edge), will host a series of public sharing, gatherings and reflection events on the value of art and the positive impact it has had on members’ lives since being involved with Tate Liverpool.

Between 26 March – 1 April 2018, Community Collective members will offer personal testimonies and insights into the difference art has made to their lives. This will be explored through conversations, presentations and practical making activities. Sessions will be planned for invited audiences from diverse local communities, gallery visitors, and creative partners.

During their time at Tate Liverpool the experiences of this unique, self-organised, collective have included negotiating the challenges of making art themselves, working within a public institution, and encountering language barriers.

The Community Collective will use their residency at Tate Exchange as an opportunity to reflect on and promote the work of the collective and recruit new collective members.

Responding to the theme of production, collective members will consider how arts-led community-focused interventions, such as the Making Sense of Art programme, can produce the conditions for communities to thrive. This exploration of the potential for art to contribute to society - be it through community health, well-being, knowledge production, critical thinking, or skills development - will be underpinned with art-making and creative problem solving.
