In These Days of Prohibition shifts between different forms of language, mixing the surreal imagery of her early work to venture into the badlands of the human psyche. Her poems hold their subjects in an unflinching grip, addressing faces behind the veneer, asking what it is that keeps us alive. These days of prohibition are days of intoxication, rehab in a desert and adultery for atheists, until Bird edges us out of danger. This collection has received widespread acclaim and was shortlisted for the 2017 Ted Hughes Award and T.S Eliot Prize.

Biography
Caroline Bird grew up in Leeds and studied English Literature at Oxford University where she was president of the Oxford Poetry Society. Caroline has won the Dylan Thomas Prize, an Eric Gregory Award, and the Foyle Young Poet of the Year award twice; as well as being shortlisted for many others. Her poems have also been published in several anthologies and journals, and have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and 4. She was one of the five official poets at the London Olympics 2012 and has performed at a wide range of festivals from Aldeburgh to Latitude.
Caroline is also an accomplished playwright, and her plays have been performed at The Bush, the Southbank Centre, the Gate Theatre and the Lyric Hammersmith as well as touring nationally.
