Discuss contemporary art and philosophy whilst exploring the Material Worlds collection display

What is more important in art, the idea or the object? How do we define art? Do artists always have to create something new? You can share thoughts on these issues whilst enjoying a range of tasks and activities in the Material Worlds display rooms.

Please bring along an everyday object found on your journey to the workshop. This could be a stone you like the look of, a sweet wrapper found on the street, a leaf fallen from a tree or an empty can. Any object will do.

This workshop is for children aged 8-12 and accompanying adults. The session will be led by philosopher Dr. AislinnO’Donnell and Education Curator Katy Fitzpatrick.

Part of the New Materialism Training School: Research Genealogies and Material Practices and organised by Tate Research Centre: Learning.

Sponsored by COST Action IS1307 New Materialism: Networking European Scholarship on ‘How Matter Comes to Matter’
