Artist Sadie Clayton and Ai-Da Robot, the world's first ultra-realistic AI robot artist, present workshops, performances and activities looking at the intersections of power, art and identity.
Thursday 24 October - Digital identity through drawing
In a playful reversal of roles, Sadie the artist becomes the created as Ai-Da the robot draws her portrait. From Thursday 24 to Sunday 27, visitors are invited to create their own life drawings of Sadie Clayton to foster discussion on the differences in observation and execution between humans and robots.
Friday 25 October - The question of inclusion
Question issues of race and technology, and consider how impactful abuses of power in this arena can be. Watch Ai-Da's interpretation of Yoko Ono's seminal work Cut Piece, and join a panel discussion on education, access and inclusion from 14.00.
Saturday 26 October - Sanctuary
As part of their complex and multi-faceted identities, Sadie and Ai-Da's persona are both mixed-race. In a time when technology can conceal race and the related issues, join a workshop modelling a powerful antidote, with creative forces combining in a positive, visible way. Ai-Da will sketch from images of Sadie's work, and Sadie will develop these sketches into a combined, final piece. See the work come together at 12.00, 14.00, and 16.00.
Sunday 27 October - Tate portraits
Potraiture is a powerful way of bringing people's lives, values and beliefs to the forefront of our minds. Ai-Da will sketch eight people that have inspired Sadie, representing powerful role models and stories of diversity, empowerment and technology. Have a glimpse into a future that incorporates the values we want to bring forward.
This event is part of Black Creativity & Technology with A Vibe Called Tech, a series exploring the intersections of technology, race, and creative expression.
About Sadie Clayton
Sadie Clayton graduated from Kingston University in 2013 with a BA Honors Fashion Design. Fascinated by design and innovation, Sadie took these foundations to explore the creative boundaries between art, technology and fashion, presenting her working process with copper through Augmented Reality for her Spring/Summer 2018 collection. She has showcased and demonstrated the art of working with copper metals as a part of the Nick Waplington / Alexander McQueen: Working Process exhibition at the Tate Britain and has presented her work at Art Basel Miami.

Ai-Da is the world’s first ultra-realistic AI robot artist. She can draw, and is a performance artist. As a machine, with AI capabilities, her artist persona is the artwork, along with her drawings, performance art and collaborative paintings and sculptures.
