BMW Tate Live Exhibition Joan Jonas with Jason Moran

16 March 2018 at 19.00–22.00
17 March 2018 at 19.00–22.00

Don't miss a unique live exchange combining piano with video projections and improvisational actions

BMW Tate Live Exhibition 2018 opens with two nights dedicated to the collaboration between Joan Jonas and the celebrated jazz pianist and composer Jason Moran.

Jonas and Moran have been working together since 2005. The performance presented at Tate, Modern Working Together: A Lecture Demonstration 2015, involves a conversation in which they each describe their process and perform excerpts from the works they have collaborated on over the years. Jonas has said: ‘Working with Jason, it’s like jazz in a sense. It’s always similar and always slightly different.’

On display throughout the Ten Days Six Nights is Jonas’s Reanimation 2010/12/13: a mesmerizing installation scored by Moran presented in the East Tank alongside the video version of a newly-preserved 16mm print of Wind, 1968.

On view in the Transformer galleries are three important early works by Jonas: Cones/May Windows (After Mirage) 1976/201; I Want to Live in the Country (And Other Romances) 1976, and Stage Sets 1977.

The Tanks foyer hosts a newly commissioned installation and daily performances by Jumana Emil Abboud titled A Happy Ending III: Tate Tales 2018 that draw on Palestinian folklore and fairy tales.
